Foresight is partnering with the Clean Resource Innovation Network (CRIN) and The Delphi Group to launch the Low Emission Fuels and Products Technology Competition. With funding of up to $25 million made possible through the Government of Canada’s Strategic Innovation Fund, the competition is seeking innovative technological solutions for Canada’s oil and gas industry that improve environmental performance, support economic growth and competitiveness of Canadian companies, and create high-value jobs.

There are four specific areas of interest:

  • Innovative products from hydrocarbons
  • Carbon capture and utilization
  • Hydrogen and geothermal
  • Low carbon intensity alternatives and new fuels

Proposals are invited for technology solutions related to oil and gas industry operations, including both new developments and retrofit opportunities for existing operations. The competition is limited to innovative breakthrough solutions with significant emission reductions that are at a minimum pilot phase and up to ‘first-of-kind’ commercial implementation stage.

Applications must come from consortia consisting of at least one SME plus at least one oil and gas producer to apply to the competition. The Expression of Interest phase of the competition runs March 31-June 9. An information webinar is being held on April 21 at 9am (PT) to explain the application process.

For more details, see the Low Emission Fuels and Products Competition website.

“We are excited about the cleantech solutions that this competition will catalyze,” says Jeanette Jackson, CEO of Foresight. “With such a distinct focus and game-changing funding, this competition will certainly unleash much-needed innovation and accelerate adoption of the new solutions.”

Competition winners will be eligible to receive up to $10 million each in grant funding from CRIN, up to an aggregate of $25 million in funding. Winners will be announced in January 2022.

The Low Emission Fuels and Products competition is one of three competitions hosted by CRIN with support from the Government of Canada through Innovation, Science and Industry. The other competitions focus on Reducing Environmental Footprint and Digital Oil and Gas.
