Join us at in the CNH Rooftop Community Garden at Collingwood Neighbourhood House on 5288 Joyce Street from 4-7 pm where Renfrew Collingwood Food Justice (RCFJ) will be hosting a garden work & learn to introduce community members to the space and celebrate the growing season. No gardening experience required, and drop in when you can! Please meet us at the front desk of Collingwood Neighbourhood House. Short and formal knowledge of the special topics for the week will be shared in the beginning of the work parties. It will be a full hands-on immersion into the rooftop garden.
We will have a range of activities including:

- rooftop planting (time dependant)
Please bring your own garden gloves, hand sanitizer and if you have any hand-tools, please bring them as well (due to a limited number).
Our garden work party on May 31st will be led by two of our RCFJ team members: Melissa (she/her), our Indigenous Foodlands and Urban Agriculture Contractor, and Stef (she/they), our Food Justice Intern.
For inquiries about leading special topics or requests for special topic learnings please contact: Indigenous Foodlands and Urban Agriculture Contractor, Melissa West Morrison (pronouns: she/her), email: collingwoodurbanag@cnh.bc.ca, (working days: Mondays & Tuesdays).
COVID-19 Safety:
Due to COVID-19 there will only be five spaces available each week to ensure that we follow proper health protocol restrictions. We will call all registered participants a few hours before the event to do a preliminary screening. Each event will begin with a reminder of COVID safe guidelines for community members. Masks are mandatory. There will be hand sanitizer and disinfectant on site for shared items.
About the Space:
The Collingwood Neighbourhood House Rooftop Garden was imagined in 2004 and became a reality in 2008 by the Food Security Institute and a team of dedicated volunteers. It features raised beds (with a community designed and assembled mosaic) growing vegetables, fruit and herbs.
Hosted by:
Renfrew Collingwood Food Justice is a working group based out of the Community Development department at Collingwood Neighbourhood House. We promote equitable access, intercultural learning and community leadership around sustainable growing, local food, food security, diverse food traditions, and healthy eating in the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood. We believe that food is a human right and help bring neighbours together to find solutions to issues like hunger, isolation, and racism in our community.
